Disney Toddler Merida doll review

Hi everyone!  This'll be a review about the [adorable] Disney Toddler Merida doll.
I got her for sale, I think, for about $15 plus shipping.  The Disney Store offers her for sale usually around the same price as the Disney Animators Collection dolls.  So anyway, let's get to the lovely redheaded lass!

Her she is.  She's around 14 inches tall, and comes wearing white tights, blue plastic shoes, and a blue and gold dress similar to the one in the movie.  She has curly red hair, blue eyes, freckles, HUGE ears, and a smirk that just says 'trouble'.

To keep her hair out of her face on the one side, I crammed a bobby pin in that huge mass of hair and hoped for the best :P

This is what her hair looks like out of the bobby pin.  You'd think her hair would be horribly crusty with gel, but it's actually kind of soft.  At first, yeah it has some crust to it, but it's still nice (And I cannot stand dolls with heavily gelled hair :D)

I think she would be beyond ADORABLE with her hair back in a ponytail - I haven't attempted it yet, for fear of ruining her curls.  This is not a doll that can be brushed!
Onto the articulation.  She has stiff arms and legs, but her head moves...

Down.

To the right

And to the left.

She can sit with her legs spread, and she can move her arms up.

She has pretty blue eyes, cute freckles, and a smirk.

She has gold painted-on underwear.  (I actually just noticed this.  Ya learn something new every day! :P)

This is the back view of her hair.

Overall, I would definitely recommend her.  $25 isn't too awful expensive, especially if you consider the fact that these are really nice quality dolls that, in my opinion, are collector quality!  She is absolutely ADORABLE and reflects Merida's personality well.  Actually, I would recommend ANY of the Disney Animators' Collection dolls - they are so cute.  I only have the 1st edition Rapunzel, and Merida, (who isn't truly from the Disney Animators' Collection), but if their quality and cuteness reflects anything close to what the actual Animators' Collection line is, I would definitely jump on the chance to get one (or two.  Or three.  Or all of them.  :P)

Random stuff and update on Rapunzel

Hi everyone!
I have a ton of review /comparison posts I want to do, and have taken pics for and everything, but I just haven't been able to get them done.  Sorry!  Hopefully they will be posted sometime soon.

I also saw the other day on Pinterest that American Girl is retiring Molly & Emily this year...so if anyone has been tossing around the idea of getting anything from that collection, better do it before everything's sold out!

And also, American Girl has some new inventory in - they have some really cute outfits, and these hair accessory things (not sure what to call them lol), they're like buns, ponytails, braided headband things, and streaked hair extension things.  The ponytails and headbands are my personal favorites.
Anyone have any favorite new things from AG?

Also, thanks so much, again: over 300 pageviews!  [=

Annd yesterday, I finally got a replacement for my messed up new Rapunzel doll from the Disney Store.  I guess enough people complained about the rubber bands, because her feet were fastened in the box with wire, and her hands were more loosely wrapped with them.  And the weird short hairs weren't there.  Most importantly...

<Replacement             ^First one

Her arm is actually functional out of the box!!  That's always good. :P

Anyway, I think that's all for now.  (:

Brand new 2013 Disney Store Rapunzel & Flynn review!!

Yesterday I was very pleased to get a classic, very oversized box with the address label stating "Disney Store".  It meant my order had finally come - my brand new 2013 Disney Store Rapunzel and Flynn!  However, my excitement quickly came to a screeching...halt...Safe to say, I may have to return Rapunzel :(  (The doll itself is adorable but her arm joint was broken right out of the package!)

Here they are - love the packaging!  Simple blue with some swirls on the clear plastic, with purple patterned bottom.
Rapunzel fresh out of her package. I won't elaborate on how horrible it was to get her out of the plastic box - if you ever order from Disney, you will soon find out for yourself :P  She really is a gorgeous doll; her head is  big, with a kind of dark teal-y color for her eyes, a more natural color for her eyebrows (as opposed to last year's mold colors), and her lips are more of a purply-pink than the almost hot pink of last year's mold.  She also has more movie-accurate freckles.

Her pretty face.  You can JUST see the freckles.  She also has some very light, almost minty green on the outline of her eye; around by her eyelashes.  The bottom of her eye is painted with the same brown as her eyebrows.  Her paint was a teensy bit wonky on the one side of her eye, it was white where it was supposed to be green; but it's hardly noticeable.  The part of her hair that swoops upward is gelled down.  I'm not usually a fan of heavy-gelled doll hair but it's just in that spot and I'm glad they made it that way, actually!!  And oddly enough, a few (okay, I admit.  TEN strands.  Yes I counted them) hairs on the other side of her face are cut like, really really short.  I can't get them to lay down flat with the rest of her hair.  Anyway, moving on to her hair:

IT'S SO SOFT.  And heavy!  It's cool that her hair is thick like that.

Her dress is glittery, but it's patterned.  I love how it's got the sun pattern on it as well!  It's really pretty.  Her bodice is plain purple, with pink corset ribbons; and she has pink and purple striped, puffy, short sleeves.  And let me warn you now:  That dress might not look as glittery as some of the other Disney dresses out there, but you will have glitter on you, on the doll (her legs are purple and glittery :D), and anything the dress touches, it has glitter on it.  Anyway, moving on.

Umm...OW.  Well, here's the main reason why I want to exchange her for another one.  Her elbow joint is broken on the one side - I'm pretty sure I didn't break it, because I'm always careful with that.  It was able to be pushed back up in where it was supposed to go, but if you try to pose her, the arm will just ooze back down and then pop out of the joint within minutes.  And even then, it won't bend  very far at all - actually, it can bend BACKWARDS practically as far, if not further, than how far it can bend the right direction.  That's just painful.
And here's an example of how far her good arm can bend vs. how far her broken arm can bend - I had to take this picture super fast because it kept wanting to fall :D  Another thing that I was NOT very pleased about was that the rubber bands that were twisted around her hands and feet left Huge indents that still have not gone away :(  I don't mind that as much though, as opposed to the broken arm!  But I still wasn't happy to pull out a brand new doll and have it broken, some unexplained short hairs, and serious indents on the hands and feet!  Really hoping I can exchange her and get one in a little better shape...
Anyway, on to Flynn.

Here's the back of Flynn's box - his is the same as Rapunzel's, only it has a quick intro as to what Rapunzel's story is, as opposed to a quick intro as to what Flynn's story is.  Anyway..
Here he is, free of his plastic shackles.  Gotta love that grin!  There's not really much to report on here; he has rubbery boots, brown pants, a blue vest and a white shirt.  They had rubber bands twisted around his wrists that left some marks, too, but they're not as noticeable because they didn't cut in as far for some reason, and also his shirtsleeves cover them - maybe they put his handcuffs on too tight in the movie, and they left marks? :P
Now for a quick little photoshoot.  Rapunzel is very nice to take pictures of!

Rapunzel & Flynn

A comparison between last year's mold, Wedding Rapunzel, and this year's mold.  New Rapunzel 's head looks kind of bigger than the Wedding Rapunzel's head.

Wedding Rapunzel with Flynn...a favorite picture of mine, until I noticed...if they're dancing, he's going to trip her or something, because his boot is on her dress!  Oh well.  :P
And then I set the camera down after taking that picture, and saw this, and had to take a picture.

Doesn't it look like New Rapunzel's kind of, like, jealous of Wedding Rapunzel?
No fighting, girls... :D

Anyway - as far as Rapunzel's appearances go, (the dress, mold, etc), I would give her a 9.5 out of 10.  The .5 point deduction is because her lips aren't exactly a natural color, and her dress isn't 100% accurate to the movie (I would LOVE to get my hands on a dress from the 1st edition 12" doll..*sigh* oh well!) Flynn I would give a 9 out of 10; just because his satchel is basically just a piece of fabric hanging from his vest, and his vest had kind of a funky feel to it, fabric material wise.(then again, I can't stand how some things feel.  Microfiber? NO.  Just no.  :D)

I would absolutely recommend them, though - hopefully nobody else gets a Rapunzel that's as weird as what mine was...I contacted the Disney Store today asking about how to go about doing an exchange, so hopefully I'll get another one soon...*another sigh* lol.  If anyone gets the Rapunzel, I'd love to hear from you; just curious if the other ones are just as flimsy/defective as mine!

My American Girl dolls (:

Hi everyone!  Today I guess I'll post pics of my American Girl doll collection :D  I currently have six 18", two customized Bitty Babies (I forgot to include them, I'll have to take some pics of them and make another post xD), and three mini dolls. I only got two from American Girl; the rest of the big ones are from eBay and were used; some needed some TLC, but now they're all gorgeous and looking almost like new!  Here are the pics:
Here's Kailey, the GOTY (Girl of the Year) 2004...she was a Christmas gift from 2009  (I think).  She was from eBay and actually had some bright orange earrings drawn on her ears; my Mom was able to remove them, leaving her ears without a trace of orange!  She came with her dog (Sandy?), her original outfit, bag and frisbee..in these pics I have her in a colonial style dress; she looks awesome in colonial dresses! (Or it may just be because I love colonial dresses..)

My first AG doll, Nellie!  I got her for Christmas in 2004 (Wow..she'll be 10 years old next Christmas..now I feel really old :P)  The poor girl can hardly stand anymore (I need to restring her legs..) but she'll always be one of my favorites.  In this pic she's wearing the Spring dress from Nellie's collection. (can't remember what it's called exactly)

And here's Josefina!  I got her for a birthday in 2010.  She came with this outfit and another outfit from her collection (unfortunately, her boots she was wearing when she was shipped [we got her used off of eBay], left some marks on her legs that I was unable to remove; however, they're barely noticeable so it's all good!)  Her hair is TERRIBLE to brush out; it's really frizzy.  Thank goodness I found out about fabric softener spritz - use a little dribble of fabric softener in a small spray bottle, fill it with warm water, shake it, spray on the doll's hair (not getting any in the eyes or anything of course), and brush it out!  IT WORKS VERY WELL!!  It made her hair soo soft for awhile.  Of course, I need to keep spritzing it to keep her hair nice, but hey - it works!

Annd Elizabeth!  She's one of my favorites -she's sooo pretty and of course, she is from the colonial period.  She came from eBay used, I paid an awesomely cheap price for her and she was like new!  The only thing was she has a tiny dot of color on her one finger.

And now some pics of the three gals I have dressed in colonial dresses! :P  The JLY with brown eyes, blond hair and freckles could almost be a sister to Kailey - what do you think?

And my JLY  with brown eyes, blond hair and freckles!  She is absolutely gorgeous!  She came from eBay used; had some marks on her, a tear in her torso and her hair needed washing, but otherwise she was in great shape and came with some AG clothes; including this outfit - Felicity's 'Meet' dress! I got the marks off and her hair clean, and the tear in her torso isn't too bad.  I absolutely love her; she looks great in ANY outfit!  I got her back in 2011-ish?  I think the summer of 2011.  Don't know for sure xD

And I really like this picture too :P

And my JLY with blond hair and blue eyes.  I got her in 2006 for Christmas (she's almost 8 years old..wow.). She's wearing a Springfield collections dress in this pic.  Her and Elizabeth could almost be sisters, too!

Mini Samantha

Mini Nellie

Annd this is how I have everyone set up on display!  Took a good bit of work to get everyone situated where they could all sit on the top of that dresser, lol.  Also, I have a palomino horse we got from eBay, and Felicity's Patriot foal.

Anyway, that's it!  (:  Thanks for reading through this super long post.. :P
